Laura began her yoga practice over a decade ago. She was drawn to the practice because it challenged her to be fully present allowing an increased sense of body awareness while grounding and calming the mind. Ashtanga yoga got a hold of her with its highly focused, very disciplined and structured practice. After exploring other approaches such as Bikram, Kundalini, Power and Vinyasa Flow, Laura fell in love with the freedom, dynamism and continuous movement of Vinyasa classes.
Laura received her 200 hour yoga training through Sky House Yoga, a donation based wellness collective in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Sky House Teacher training teaches students through a multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary study based in Hatha yoga. This program was focused on alignment & modifications, anatomy & physiology, meditation, pranayama and yoga philosophy while touching on Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, yoga therapeutics, yoga nidra, partner yoga, Ayurveda, aromatherapy, astrology and Kirtan.
Laura’s approach to teaching yoga is to simply be a source of direction and inspiration, while leaving space for students to find their inner teacher and realize the healing benefits of yoga both on and off the mat. She guides students through a fluid physical practice encouraging a playful sense of curiosity and exploration. Drawing from various styles, her classes are an energetic expression of yoga that emphasize clarity of alignment and a steady connection to the breath. Laura challenges herself to weave in as many aspects of all that is yoga into her presentation of the Asanas (poses) and Pranayama (breath work) by connecting to her own practices and contemplation of Yogic philosophy. She encourages her students to play with their edge, while providing a safe, encouraging, and nonjudgmental environment where each individual can work to their full potential.
